jen payneBringing together all of her experiences, Jen Payne began Words by Jen in order to provide a comprehensive service to businesses, organizations and individuals. With a degree in English and Journalism and close to 25 years of industry experience, her skill-set includes copy writing and editing, public relations, publication editing and production, book design, graphic design, brand development, printing, and website design.

Jen currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Branford Land Trust and is a co-editor and contributor for its quarterly newsletter. She is Vice President, Director of Production and Marketing for Bick Publishing House in Branford, CT.

She is committed to supporting the efforts of community, and does so by volunteering for a number of local organizations; in addition to the Branford Land Trust , she volunteers for the Community Dining Room, and the Women & Family Life Center in Guilford. She was a member of the Branford Chamber of Commerce from 1994 - 2013 and served on its Board of Directors for a number of years.

In her spare time, Jen is a writer, artist, and author of the blog Random Acts of Writing. In 2014, she wrote and published LOOK UP! Musings on the Nature of Mindfulness, the first title from Three Chairs Publishing. She is a member of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, the Connecticut Poetry Society, Guilford Arts Center, the Guilford Poets Guild, the Independent Book Publishers Association, and the Story Circle Network.

Words by Jen is a Certified Woman Owned, Small/Minority Business Enterprise through the State of Connecticut.

Jen Payne's poem "Tempest" was recently published in Encircle Publication's literary jounral The Aurorean.


Bick Pubishing House was recently honored with an Independent Publisher Book Award. Understand Your Self, written by Dale Carlson and Kishore Khairnar, and designed by Words by Jen, won a silver medal for this Juvenile/Teen/Young Adult Non-Fiction title. The IPPY awards “Recognizing Excellence in Independent Publishing."

Watch closely and you’ll spot this Women & Family Life Center poster, designed by Words by Jen, in the movie Hope Springs. Filmed in Connecticut during the fall of 2011, the movie includes a number of familiar sights, including the Stonington Lighthouse, Guilford Food Center and Breakwater Books. Watch for the poster in the book-buying scene with the magical Meryl Streep.
